FOR THE LOVE OF SATURDAY – AND OUR YOUNG ONES

Howdy Friends!

Today it’s a little tough to find good books for our young ones. I’ll admit the first book I set out to write about Saturday, I hadn’t even thought about that. I simply wanted to write a fun, loving tribute to a sweet loving little dog who had touched our hearts every day for ten years. It was friends who told me to make that tribute a book for young ones. So I did.

I set out then to put together stories about Saturday that told his story in a way that I enjoyed, and more importantly, in a way children could love.

Hearing this news, one of the world’s best illustrators, Troy Locker Palmer, contacted me to say she would like to illustrate. And we became a team.

Saturday’s first book, “A Dog Named Saturday,” premiered in December 2018. There have been four more since then. And you can find them all here: www.adognamedsaturday.com .

Before long people began telling me they loved Saturday, and they loved the stories. And of course the wonderful illustrations. And how refreshing it was to find books for children that were simple, moral and even safe.

At first I was surprised by those comments. Until more and more parents told me the challenge there is in children’s books today to find books of a wholesome, sound and even Christian view. I took those comments to heart.

At first my plan had been to write only that one book, “A Dog Named Saturday.” But as more parents and grandparents talked to me about Saturday, I decided to continue.

And I took with me the comments about good and wholesome books. Now I’m a simple man by nature, so it comes naturally I suppose, to write Saturday’s books in a child friendly way.

As I write I take every effort to be aware how a young mind will view the words and thoughts of Saturday, Kessy and the kitties.

Saturday’s books are fun, uplifting and a bit of carefully thought out lessons. I began calling them, “Children’s books the way they used to be.”

My promise to all, is Saturday’s adventures are, and will continue to be, heart-healthy, learning and fun.
