LIZZY UPDATE – 10-3-24 – DENTIST

Howdy Friends! The dentist, Stephanie Surprenant (Pro Floats), came to fix Miss Lizzy’s teeth yesterday. She said Lizzy has very good teeth. Her dental work had been neglected for a number of years and a few “adjustments,” were needed. All adjustments were made and Lizzy’s mouth can begin to heal. This will also effect in a good way her posture. The dentist told us Lizzy is 15 years old. We’ll have a good many years frolicking together.

Our veterinarian, Dr Martha Moses arranges and brings the equine dentist. While she was here I had her check a few things on Lizzy. Lizzy has heaves, and has been on Dr Thomas’, “Heaves,” formula one month now. While that seems to have stopped her cough, her respiration rate is still over 25, (should be around 10). Dr. Moses said her lungs still sound raspy. We’ll keep Lizzy on the Heaves formula for as long as it takes. Most likely another 3 or 4 months. Remember, Chinese Contemporary herbs heal and rebuild, not manage, so that takes a little time. NOTE: An important regiment when healing a horse with Heaves, is to feed only steamed hay. I built my own steamer.

Lizzy also gets Dr Thomas’ “Total Immune Health,” to rebuild her immune system. This will also finish the battle against Lepto. She’ll need to be on “Total Immune Health,” for about 3 more months. It typically takes 3 – 4 months to rebuild the blood.

Dr. Moses also checked Lizzy’s good right eye. We have Lizzy on Dr. Thomas’, “Uveitis,” formula to promote eye health. (Remember Lizzy lost her left eye to Lepto). Dr. Moses found that Lizzy’s good eye is in beautiful health and we can discontinue the “Uveitis,” formula when current supply is used. She’s been on for a little over a month now. Lizzy has also been treated with antibiotics for the Lepto. That treatment has been completed.

We had Dr. Moses examine Lizzy for the possibility of Chiropractic treatment. Because she fights lifting her legs, especially her hind legs, for trimming and cleaning. Dr Moses said she sees nothing there that leads her to believe she has any issues that need adjustment. I didn’t want to begin any real behavioral work until I knew nothing was pain related. And Dr Moses assured us they are not . . . So I told Lizzy, “Etiquette” classes begin tomorrow.

Dr. Moses said Lizzy gained about 100 pounds since we have her, and she looks great. She’s really a sweet mare, and the journey is going to be wonderful. Larry Wilson will come in about a month to reshape my saddle tree to fit Lizzy. ~ Gitty Up, Dutch.
