Howdy Friends! It’s the Lord’s Day!

A day where Christians gather together to hear the Word preached and worship together.

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet.”

.

-Revelation 1:10

Sunday was the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Since that time, believers have gathered on the first day of the week to celebrate His victory over sin and death.

John doesn’t elaborate on the meaning of “Lord’s day,” but we can assume that his audience, first-century Christians, were already familiar with the expression.

“On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.”

-Acts 20:7

“On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.”

-1 Corinthians 16:2

The Lords Day as Sunday is not the Christian Sabbath. We are free to worship and serve the Lord any time, any day. It’s Jesus who is our Sabbath rest.

“Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”

-Colossians 2:16-17

Jesus is our sabbath rest. Read Hebrews chapters 3-4. Whoever believes has entered Gods rest.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

-Matthew 11:28-30

“Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”

-Colossians 2:16-17
