Howdy Friends! “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)
Can we fully grasp the amazing privilege of reading and studying words from God? When we open our bible, or join with others to study, God grants us the tremendous privilege of absorbing glorious truths we could not discover on our own. God speaks to us, through scriptures, in words we can read, ponder, and apply. As we take to heart what God says through His word, He transforms us in unimaginable ways. If we wrestle with our schedules and prioritize our time with the Lord, we will see the privilege to think on, study, and contemplate the revelations of our eternal God. As He opens our eyes, hearts and minds.
God’s Spirit inspired more than 40 authors to record His revelation for the world. “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
As we navigate this world with diverse and wayward opinions, we can thoroughly trust God’s word as unchanging truth to guide us. “God is not a man, that he should lie;” (Numbers 23:19) – “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Proverbs (30:5)
God works in our hearts and reveals Himself and draws our hearts to Him as we study His truthful, instructive word. Familiar texts in the Bible embrace our hearts, and enlighten our minds. However EVERY passage within God’s word communicates truth we need to understand.
While the well-loved, and often quoted and studied, New Testament presents fantastic truth about salvation in Christ, those books stand on the foundation laid with the Old Testament.
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isiah 55:10-11) –
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:23-25)
My friends, time each day to study God’s word is time granted by Heavenly Father for your sake, to His honor. “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” It is a privilege to study the matter of God’s word. (Proverbs 25:2)
We should not only study alone as a monk in a basement. But rather take time to study with others. Iron sharpens Iron. “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” (Proverbs 27:17)
