THE WORD TRANSFORMING THE WORLD – DEVOTIONAL

.

Howdy Friends! “What’s the world coming to?” I said to Grandpop. “I can sure remember you saying that when I was just a boy.”

I’d taken the weekend off, knowing Grandpop was short handed for hay baling so I’d made the trip. Funny how I felt so much older after the first day baling. Muscles hurt I’d forgotten were even there. Cool on the porch though, after a long hot day. “World sure looks different from this view.” I whispered to myself.

“Been watchin’ this ol’ world fer more years than a fella should be allowed ta have.” Grandpop said. “Funny thing about this world, we can choose how we go about it.”

“Go about it?” I wondered.

“Ya see, we can let the world run us, or we can swim upstream as they say.” He sipped his coffee. “It’s easy ta go with the flow, even if when it’s flowin’ the wrong direction. That’s where a lot of folks get it upside down.”

“Upside down?”

Grandpop didn’t bother to explain upside down. “When a body looks at a thing,” he said, “knowin’ it’s against what should be, but decides it’s more fun, or easier ta just roll with it, or worse gets on board with it and helps promote it, well Son, there’s only one way for it ta go, and that’s downhill.”

He gave me a “lecturing” look. “And you know what happens when a bad thing gets ta rollin’ downhill. It picks up speed.”

I had to chuckle, “Like that hay wagon that lost a pin and went rolling downhill today.”

“Just like that!”

“I haven’t run that fast, that long in years!” I let go a good laugh. “Thank God there was a rock I could grab and slam under the wheel and stop that runaway!”

“That’s the deal, Son. The world needs more of us grabbin’ onto the rock of the Lord’s word.” He took another sip of coffee. “Yep, God, His word, is the rock that can keep this ol’ world from slidin’ on down the hill of no return.” He slapped the arm of his chair, tossed me a wink, “Here’s hopin’ more folks find that rock.”
