HOW CAN THE BLIND SEE – DEVOTIONAL

Howdy Friends! It began as so many other days, with a brilliant sunrise. “Haven’t seen such a painted morning in some time.” Grandpop told the boy. “Let’s sit a spell and take it all in.” Grandpop said.

.

The boy and the old man sat quietly admiring the reds and yellows. The glaring streaks of light. And the few cotton balls of white puff. “Up here on your ranch the sky looks so big. I can’t see the edges!” The boy declared.

“Ah, well, it’s hard to see everythin’ God paints for us.” Grandpop sipped his coffee. “He’s always paintin’ though.”

“What?” The boy asked. “Painting?”

“That’s what I call it. Sort of my way of thinkin’ about God always on the job. Always on the job lookin’ over His creation. Paintin’ this, watchin’ that. Listenin’ to every word spoke by every single person. The great ones, the not so great ones.” Grandpop pointed to his own chest. “And them He wants to call to himself, because they’s too blind to see.”

The boy turned, looked up to Grandpop. “Were you blind?” His voice a surprised whisper.

“Sure was. In a sense. I was quite the rough-houser in my young days. Didn’t see what folks call, ‘the error of my ways.’ That is until the good LORD opened my eyes and gave me sight to see Him.”

“Wow! You were blind!” The boy exclaimed. “You couldn’t see anything?”

“Oh I could see alright. Just not the things I should be seeing.” Grandpop chuckled.

“What?”

“Just because a fella can see, that don’t mean he can see.”

“What?”

Grandpop tossed the boy a wide grin. “Well, there’s seein’ and then there’s seein’. I’m not sure, but the way I’ve got it figured we’re born seein’ the world through the world’s view.”

“Okay?” The boy questioned.

“Then there comes a time when the Good LORD sorta taps on your shoulder to get your attention.”

“God taps you on the shoulder?”

“Just to get your attention. Sort of a knock on the door. Maybe to see if you’re at home.” Grandpop winked. “That’s when it can all start.”

“What can start?”

“Seein’ the world not through man’s vision, but through God’s vision.” Grandpop waved his hand in a wide gesture. “Remember there’s two ways to see. The world’s way, or God’s way. A fella can’t do ‘em both ways at the same time.”

“He can’t? Why?”

“Nope.” Grandpop said. “They don’t mix. The world has it’s way of seein’ and doin’ things, I call it flyin’ blind. Because the world got no anchor, no root. Just hops here and there on any ol’ whim. Like a young filly out for a romp, reckless, selfish, not thinkin.’Runnin’ blind.”

“Oh.”

“And God’s view of His world is ordered. Planned. Rooted in purpose. With guidelines and reason.”

“Really?”

“Yup. And when God comes callin’ if we hear Him knockin’ and respond to His call, why He wipes away our blindness and we can see. We can see what God desires for us to do. And see this beautiful gift of His world in a different light. His light.”

“Wow …. “ the boy sighed.

Grandpop thought about telling the boy that was just the beginning. How being able to see, and being with Him made a fella want to please God more and more. But he figured he’d leave that for another visit. In the near future. “I’ll tell ‘im about progress next time.”
