THE BELL DIDN’T RING – DEVOTIONAL
Howdy Friends! On the wall, atop the stairs hangs a bell. An ordinary bell. A small bell.
Nothing fancy. No grand decorations. No spectacular ornamentations. Not a single embellishment to draw the eye. Or demand attention. But this, often unnoticed, tiny bell hangs for a reason. A very important reason.
On the wall, atop the stairs, for many years, there hangs a bell. A bell with a most important job. It’s not an every day job. Most days the bell didn’t ring. Most days of the week the tiny bell had no reason to ring. This little bell only had one job. This little bell had only one very important job. A job so precious it was always there, and ready.
On the wall, atop the stairs, for many years, there hangs a bell, with a most important job. Only one job. That tiny bell had a job so big it could only be done at the one time of the week.
On the wall, atop the stairs, for many years, there hangs a little bell. A bell with only one job. Once a week that little bell, with clarity and joy rings loudly, excitedly, with proclamation and joy.
For that one job, of this tiny bell, is to call for the gathering of saints. That single duty assigned the little bell is a joyous job. A ringing with excitement and eagerness, proclaiming NOW is the time, the moment, all brothers and sisters have looked forward to each week to gather together in solemn worship of our LORD.
That tiny bell, once a week, rings with joy and announces the beginning of worship, study and learning under the tutelage of a devoted Pastor. And all brothers and sisters heed that glorious ring and gather.
Today the tiny bell didn’t ring. The tiny bell is sad today.
But it is a sadness it knows will quickly pass. For it knows next week, it will ring and ring and gleefully call all brothers and sisters back together.
On the wall, atop the stairs hangs a bell. An ordinary bell.
