Howdy Friends! Today, one year ago, I received a phone call from my veterinarian. She said, “I know a horse who needs to come to you, today.” It was only 5 days after Miss Rosie had died, and she’d been here for us that horribly sad day. At that moment I had no idea if I’d get another horse or not … After all I’m old, and wearing out … My vet said, “I saw her yesterday, you need to go get her, today.”

Our Pastor had told me just the day before, “You’re the only one in the church who thinks you don’t need another horse.”

The vet went on to say, “She’s a Kentucky Mountain Horse who needs you. She has Lepto, she has Heaves, she’s really underweight, feet in bad shape, had no dental work in I don’t know how long, and oh, she’s blind in her left eye…. You should get her today.”

That Blind left eye thing is funny, because that’s the eye I lost in a stroke a few years back. I remember chuckling and thinking, at least God could have worked it out so she was blind on the other side.

.

Well, our horse trailer hadn’t been moved in about 2 years. Tires flat, it’s inspection had expired a year ago… So I walked around the barn a bit. Talked it over with Robbie … She said, “Get the horse.”

So, we hooked up, pumped up the tires. Did a check on the trailer and hit the road.

Seeing Miss Lizzy the first time, was pretty much the same as most the horses I’ve adopted. Seems God most of the time sends me projects. Lizzy was surely happy in spirit, but oh how sad in body… Teeth growing through her palate, feet inches too long, could count her ribs 50 feet away. And coughing. But boy was she sweet.

We talked with the owner a bit … Loaded her up, and moved Lizzy home.

That’s all past now. A year later now, she’s a glowing, loving, strong girl. All health issues taken care of. About a month to go yet on the Chinese Herbs for Heaves, of which there has been no symptoms for over a month now. Still steaming her hay, perhaps we can end that soon, too.

Today, By Golly, we are celebrating Lizzy’s BIRTHDAY! Near as we can tell, she’s 16. She’s looking amazing, loves people. Is a hoot to ride, even if we both get hit by branches on our blind side. She’s a great horse, a gift from God.

Praise God from whom all Blessings flow!
